Tedious Babbel
Tedious, signed up a month ago but progress is very slow compared to Duolingo.
At the end of a section you have to type into a tiny box to spell a word, spell it wrong and you can’t move on. Maybe it’s me but I do not need to be able to spell Spanish words absolutely correctly, I just want to be able to talk and understand verbal Spanish at a reasonable level.
Also Babbel wants you to learn each sentence in second and third person from day one, that could come later from street experience.
Meanwhile this approach slows the whole process of learning new words in each lesson to a trickle.

I am very unhappy. you can only go so far and then they ask for more money . I want to cancel and was told to send an email from an IBOT. I WANT MY SUBSCRIPTION CANCELLED . I CANT BE MORE DIRECT THAN THAT. I GOT IT ON FEB 4TH, 2023 AND WANT IT CANCELLED ON FEB 4TH, 2023. NOT ONLY DID THEY NOT CANCEL . THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME TWICE . NO PHONE NUMBER TO CALL .THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO DO BUSINESS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL NOT BEING ABLE TO TALK TO A REAL PERSON TO FIX PROBLEMS !
For pure beginners
Babbel is an application for pure beginners. It has an over simplified review process which might help you with understanding basic vocabulary and grammar. It lacks depth in learning and review. It is easy to guess the answers. It will not teach you to make sentences except for those available in sessions. There is no grammar overview. Vocabulary overview is a joke. Overall, tool-wise it is designed for starters. However, there is a possibility to exchange with human teachers which might help improve speaking & understanding. There is no AI support or advanced learning program. It is not good value for the money. Good idea, not so good implementation.
Support is non-existent.
"Review" button is disabled on iOS, making the app unusable. Support doesn't reply.

Babbel support will not respond
After trying Babbel for a few days I ended up with some issues where their website directed me to contact Babbel support which I did every day. It has now been 3 days with no response from Babbel other than receiving a canned email saying they are busy and directing me to their website. I also am receiving emails from their sales department trying to get me to pay money for upgrades. Contacted a competitive service and got response within 2 hours.

Not happy
Not happy! £71 taken out of my account for a subscription I didn’t sign up for - paid £44 for a trial at least a year ago - Tried to make contact on their online chat - absolutely useless! Tried emailing and received an email saying “Thanks for learning with Babbel…..
I don’t want the subscription and I would like a refund - How Very Convenient that you can’t actually make any contact!
Customer Service is not their strong suit
I received an email from Babbel as I had signed up previously without a subscription. The email had a discount for a yearly subscription, which I have been charged for, although all my content is still locked. I have sent them an email message with a copy of my subscription details, and I have not heard back. The chat box for this issue is absolutely useless, and THERE IS NO PHONE NUMBER. I googled and found a number online, but it refers you back to their email so you can not talk to a human. I was excited to get started and read some good reviews, but after this I am ready to dispute the charge as fraud.
The diverse pronunciations are a big plus
The diverse pronunciations, male and female, are very helpful, and a big plus (especially over duolingo, whose voice often sounds robotic).
A few suggestions for improvement (IMO):
1. At times some of the lessons can seem a little long.
2. There's some inconsistency with pacing, with dialog scrolling off the screen, and having to scroll back to review what might have flown past too quickly (especially if you add additional notes (which by the way are usually very helpful context)
3. In a few (thankfully rare) cases, the pronunciation seemed way off (which could simply be my poor hearing).
4. There's some inconsistency with showing translations into English in certain exercises. This can be frustrating if you're seeing and hearing dialog and not always understanding/remembering what's being said.
5. It would be good to have a "back" button to review material after the fact.

Signed up for myself and partner
Signed up for myself and partner. Received an email with a buddy code and no instructions. Signed in and apparently used the buddy code. Reached out twice with no response. How can a company that’s so successful have such horrible customer service.

It's very good...my only issue is that Babbel represents that you will be conversational, however for better or worse it concentrates on verb conjugations.

Recently Babbel autorenewed…
Recently Babbel autorenewed unexpectedly without my consent. I contacted them and they were so awesome. Refunded me instantly. I was so thankful. The app is great too. I just never needed it anymore. .
Effective use of voice recognition technology . . .
The effective use of voice recognition technology is what sets Babbel apart from other methods of language acquisition, including classroom instruction. With Babbel, if you elect this option, the student speaks their answers, right from the first lessons. The student repeats the answer until their pronunciation is within an acceptable range. Babbel can do this, individually, for each student in a way that the teacher of a class with multiple students cannot. This is one on one instruction, available at any time of the day or night.

Superb pacing of speaking.
Although I’m am second gen Polish-American and had good language training in school and in the Army, I really appreciate the speaking pace of the speakers. I don’t have to struggle to understand words and phrases.
A good program, easy to follow
I really like the Babbel approach, now that I've been working on it (German) daily for a couple of weeks. I speak a number of other languages, plus a little self-taught German, and have travelled in Germany and Austria, so I know the sound of it. But now I'm learning everyday vocabulary and grammatical principles. I really like the brief explanations of grammar and the way new words are introduced.

I can not get access to the language I requested to learn. I paid for a 6 month package and cannot even get on to unlock the language I requested. Emails go unanswered. I want a freaking REFUND!!!!
